Golf

The Course

“When commissioned to design Talking Stick Golf Club, our charge was to create two golf courses to accommodate public play yet each decidedly different, with respect to playing characteristics.

Talking Stick Golf Club’s O’odham Course (formerly North Course), with its broad, angular holes, rewards thoughtful play through the rise of its many options according to one’s level of skill. Its low profile, slightly crowned greens and close-cropped approaches encourage running as well as aerial assaults.

The Piipaash Course (formerly South Course) with its tree lined fairways and raised greens defended at the sides offers a more straightforward style of play. It presents its challenge and strategy in an open and clear-cut fashion.

Whichever course one chooses or prefers, it was our desire to portray golf in a traditional sense, which quietly merges with its tranquil desert surroundings.”

– Bill Coore & Ben Crenshaw

Coore & Crenshaw Design

Admiration and respect for the classic golf courses of the “Golden Age of Architecture” inspired Ben Crenshaw and Bill Coore to establish the firm of Coore and Crenshaw Inc. in 1986. Theirs is an architectural firm based upon the shared philosophy that traditional, strategic golf is the most rewarding, and the creation of courses that present this concept with the greatest artistry is the ultimate goal. They have blended their personal experience and admiration for the classical courses of Ross, Mackenzie, Macdonald, Maxwell, and Tillinghast to create a style uniquely their own.

VISION54 Golf Coaching

At VISION54 we have one main intention – to support golfers to play better ON the course and ENJOY the game more.

Talking Stick Golf Club is the home base for the world-renowned VISION54 Golf Coaching program co-founded and performed by coaches Lynn Marriott and Pia Nilsson. VISION54 is much more than swing coaching. At VISION54 you learn the skills you need to PLAY better ON the golf course. Isn’t that what all golfers want? Practice sessions incorporate the latest research on practice and transferring the skills to the golf course.

VISION54 targets the whole person, not just the technical aspect of the game.

We look at the reality of golf and what elements influence your performance. The elements are physical, technical, mental, emotional, social and spirit of the game. To make this come alive we created the 8 Essential Play Skills golfers need to complement their technique – Play Box, Decision & Commitment, Balance, Tempo, Tension Awareness, Emotional Resilience, Memory Storage, and Managing Self-Talk.

We believe that you have a unique strategy for playing great golf and we want you to take great care in discovering what works best for you, MY54. By doing this, you will gain clarity about your unique strategy for playing great golf, and therefore will achieve it more often.

Additional information on VISION54 can be found on their website, click here for the program menu, or here for the program list.
